Biography

Dr. Augustus Dery Ninfaa is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Ecological Agriculture, Bolgatanga Technical University. He is a horticulturist and a food security advocate. Dr. Ninfaa has extensive knowledge and experience in plant propagation and nursery management. He has managed several projects including a project dubbed ‘tree for life’ which he supervised the propagation, management and distribution of 5000 mango and other tree seedlings across 10 communities around the Bolgatanga Municipality as a way of service to community.

Dr. Ninfaa has been part of a team for the development of practical training manuals for the cultivation of vegetables under the skills development fund (SDF). Manuals developed were centered on topics such as Climate Resilience Agronomic Practices, Agrochemical usage and Safety Management, Field Pests and Diseases Management Practices, Postharvest Management Practices, and Storage and Marketing for Vegetable Production.

Currently, Augustus is part of a team of lecturers researching into the propagation and storage of sweet and Frafra potato as well as the propagation of the shea tree in the Upper East Region.

Prior to the assumption of duty as a Lecturer, Dr. Augustus Dery Ninfaa worked the Agribusiness Systems International (ASI), a subsidiary of ACDI/VOCA-Ghana on the Arizakinmu Project, which operated in the three Northern Regions of Ghana and the Volta Region as a Warehouse Liaison Officer. Augustus carried out training sessions on post-harvest storage of grains for smallholder farmers in several communities in the Northern, Upper East and West Regions of Ghana.

Augustus has also consulted for AGRA, USAID-METTS, ADVANCE, WFP/METTS and NATHAN ASSOCIATES (under the MADE program in Ghana). Dr. Augustus Dery Ninfaa holds a PhD in Horticulture, MSc. in Postharvest Technology and a BSc. in Agriculture Technology from the University of the Philippines Los Banos (UPLB), Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and the University for Development Studies (UDS), respectively.
