Department of Statistics

Welcome to the Department of Statistics (STAT) at Bolgatanga Technical University (BTU).

The department was established in October 2003 to offer a 3-year Higher National Diploma (HND) in Statistics. Since then, the department continuously strived to improve the HND curricula to better meet the needs and aspirations of today’s students and employers.

In light of the technological advancements, considerable efforts are currently in progress to modernise the statistics department to keep up with these developments. Many of our courses are now incorporating laboratory components that enrich the students’ learning experience, given them the exposure to practice the theoretical concepts whilst in school. The Department is glad to mention that curricula for Data Science Programmes and Actuarial Science will soon be brought on board. Apart from the two B.Tech Programmes mentioned, plans are far advanced to introduce more Bachelor of Technology programmes in the near future to address the challenges and aspirations of individuals and to meet standards of the industry.

I would like to officially thank the staff of the department for having devoted their skills and hard work together as an efficient team to building a good foundation.
